T.Y. Students walk the Camino in support of Clíona’s Foundation

31 January 2025

Our names are Finn White and Philip Smyth, and we are in Transition Year. We decided to do the Camino in aid of Cliona’s foundation. Cliona’s foundation is a national organisation that provides financial support for families who are caring for a child with a life limiting illness. Since 2006 they have provided financial support to over 1,400 families. Studies have shown that there are 4,000 children in Ireland that have a life limiting illness and that families need an additional 10k to 15k extra a year to meet the non medical costs associated with caring for their child. They help cover costs of travel expenses to and from hospitals as well as food and dietary requirements and other  expenses. Clionas have been working with secondary schools for many years through talks about their work and various fundraisers. As part of their schools engagement programme and with the help of the ” Camino Groups ”, we will take part in a fundraising journey to the Camino Santiago travelling in the 12 May 2025.

Our goal is to raise at least 1000 euro each for Clionas foundation and then we will walk in solidarity with Cliona’s for 7 days. Over the seven days we will cover around 24 km a day. The reason we are doing this is because we would like the experience of doing the Camino as well as giving back to the community through Cliona’s. We would really appreciate it if you could donate to our cause at:

We wish the lads well as they prepare for their journey to walk a section of the Camino.
Any support would be really appreciated.
Kind regards,
Ms Corcoran.
