On Thursday evening the 4th May a lovely arts event took place in the school library. The fifth year art students enjoyed an exhibition opening of their work. The exhibition called ‘Illuminate’ includes 5 lovely framed pieces each comprising of watercolour, illustration & calligraphy. The artworks were produced as a result of a ‘creative engagement’ project, whereby a local artist came into the class room over a series of 9 weeks and worked with the students to create the final pieces. The artist was Josephine Hardiman, a highly skilled & experienced calligrapher from Punchestown.
On the night of the exhibition the students were joined by Josephine, their parents, school management, Mr. Merrick and Mr. Eddie Burke from the Edmund Rice School’s trust. Mr. Burke was particularly interested in seeing the work as each piece is based on one of the key characteristics of an Edmund Rice School. Thank you to Mr. Travers for his inspiring opening address. Thanks to Mr. Murphy & Rosanna who both contributed greatly to the organisation of the evening. A special thanks goes to Fran for providing some delicious food also.
Keep an eye out for these 5 artworks which will be
on display in the school corridor very soon.
